Although there are lots of search engines around the world and they all have some distinct differences, but in the same way, there are some common features/characteristics which are the search engine result pages which are also called. All the search engines have search result pages in common.

Some Common Attributes of SERPs

One thing that you may notice on the top of these pages are some paid listings also called advertisements. Paid listing are very different from the traditional organic and natural listing that will be the focus for SEO purpose. These paid listings are actually advertisements from different advertisers. Some programs like Google AdWords and Microsoft adCenter allows advertisers to bid on and these ads on search result page. A typical search engine result will have ten results that link out to ten different pages. Each result might look a little different.  But they all have at least a headline, a description, and a visible URL.

The important thing is to remember is that you have a lot of opportunities to have your content show off in the search engine results pages and more you understand how search engines decide to show results to users the more you understand how to get the search engines to show your content above the rest. It is important to learn the behavior of search engines because without knowing it in depth it will be hard to follow search engines rules of relevancy and authority.
